N2 - Three indoles, tryptophol (1), 6-bromoindole-3-carbaldehyde (2), and indole-3-carbaldehyde (3) together with p-hydroxybenzaldehyde (4) and phenylacetamide (5) have been isolated from a marine sponge, Halichondria sp. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods as well as comparison of spectral data with those reported. This is the first isolation of these five compounds from sponges, of which tryptophol (1) and phenylacetamide (5) were isolated for the first time from marine organisms. These compounds were antifungal against Mortierella ramannianus.
