Resumen

To the Editor: Delayed gastric emptying is a well-documented late manifestation of diabetes mellitus that is usually attributed to autonomic neuropathy.1,2 Gastric emptying has been studied in heterogeneous groups of patients with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus and with non—insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) who have had diabetes for various periods,3,4 but not in patients with NIDDM soon after its development. We used scintigraphic techniques to study the gastric emptying of a liquid glucose meal (50 g of glucose in 450 ml of water containing 150 μCi of technetium-99m—sulfur colloid) in 18 subjects who had fasted 10 hours — 9 patients who had.
