Resumen

The polyol hypothesis for cellular thermotolerance development (1) represents a mechanism by which cells could increase their thermal resistance; (2) is supported, in concept, by the limited amount of data currently available; (3) suggests specific relationships that can be experimentally tested. Data obtained from the specific experiments suggested should clarify the relationship of pyridine, glutathione, and carbohydrate metabolism with the phenomenon of thermotolerance.
