Resumen

Peripheral neuropathy is among the most common causes for which patient seek out medical care. Many patients continue to have chronic neuropathic pain after trial of conservative therapy. Continued advances in neuromodulation allow for better treatment of these disorders. Current central nervous system treatment strategies such as spinal cord stimulation and dorsal root ganglion stimulation are insufficient for those patients suffering from peripheral mononeuropathies. Peripheral nerve stimulation is a more precise and focused treatment modality. Peripheral nerve stimulation is a relatively safe and effective treatment for these individuals. Patients who meet appropriate criteria for implantation experience a statistically significant reduction in pain scores and decreased opiate consumption.
