Resumen
Pediatric spinal deformity includes scoliosis and kyphosis. Scoliosis is defined as a coronal plane deformity greater than 10°, and can be congenital, neuromuscular, or idiopathic. Thoracic kyphosis is a sagittal plane deformity of greater than 50°, with a normal thoracic kyphosis being 20–40°. Cervical and lumbar kyphosis is defined as any loss in the normal lordosis of these regions of the spine. The goals of treatment for spinal deformity are a balanced spine, prevention of further deformity, management of pain, and curve correction. Children and adolescents typically present with curve progression and cosmetic issues, while adults present with pain and neurologic abnormalities.
