Resumen

These findings demonstrate that HgCl2 and gentamicin-elicited alterations in LLC-PK1 cell membrane ultrastructure are similar to membrane changes observed in whole animal models. These ultrastructural alterations in cell membranes are associated with altered phosphoglyceride metabolism. Since phospholipids are intimately associated with maintenance of cell membrane integrity and therefore cellular homeostasis, it is conceivable that nephrotoxin-induced changes in renal membrane phospholipids may play a critical role in acute toxic renal failure.
