Resumen

We observed a decreasing effect of late-afternoon melatonin (Mel) injections [but not subcutaneously (s.c.) implanted Mel pellets] on the volume of nuclei of thyroid follicular cells (TFC) in male Syrian hamsters. That effect was reversed by diazepam (DZ), chronically released from s.c. implanted pellets. Diazepam, both in injections and in pellets, tended to increase the volume of TFC nuclei, but that rise did not attain statistical significance. On the other hand, DZ, neither in injections nor in pellets, did influence the concentration of thyroid hormones in any significant way.
