Resumen
A transient thrombocytopenia has been reported in rats after infusion of liposome encapsulated hemoglobin (LEH). Specific quantitation of the thrombocytopenia is difficult due to the inference of LEH with platelet counting by light scattering methods due to an overlap in their size. In order to study the effect of LEH on platelets biodistribution, platelets were labeled with indium-111 and monitored with a gamma scintigraphic camera. Indium-111 labelled platelets can be used to study mechanisms of LEH-induced thrombocytopenia and aid in the development of LEH formulations not associated with thrombocytopenia.
