Resumen

Insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia are present in the majority of obese subjects if they are over 50% of ideal body weight. The insulin resistance is manifested by decreased uptake of glucose by peripheral tissues (muscle) and impaired suppression of hepatic glucose production. Both of these abnormalities can be improved by physical training.
