Resumen

1. 1. The cephalic secretion of males of the ant Camponotus vagus is dominated by methyl 6-methylsalicylate and the isocoumarin mellein. 2. 2. An isomeric farnesene and three farnesene-C5 homologues constitute minor concomitants of the aromatic compounds. 3. 3. A trace of mellein is detectable in extracts of worker heads whereas those of alate females contain only structural lipids. 4. 4. The possible chemotaxonomic and functional significance of these Camponotus natural products is discussed.
