Authorship: Yours, Mine, or Ours?

Along with the benefits afforded by collaboration comes the issue of equitable division of publication credit. Joint authorship is examined by addressing two separate questions: Who is entitled to be named as author? and Who gets what place in the sequence of author names? Guidelines for determining authorship include considerations of timing of decisions, identification of authors, sequence of authors, role of coauthors, the journal editor's authority, and difference across disciplines.
