Resumen

Assessment of axillary lymph node status is an integral part of management of patients with invasive and some patients with in situ cancer of the mammary gland. This guide describes the rationale of axillary evaluation, extent of axillary surgery, and sampling to modern sentinel node mapping employing different tracers. The trainee surgical residents and young surgeons would find it very useful for day to day management of patient with breast cancer. Fluorescein sodium is emerging as a new affordable tracer for sentinel node mapping.
