Abstract
NCCLS is best known to microbiologists for the development of standards for the performance and reporting of antibacterial susceptibility tests, which include frequent updates with new drug information and guidance for detection of emerging antibiotic resistance. However, NCCLS also publishes a number of other documents that deal with antifungal, antimycobacterial, and antiviral testing and testing of antibacterial agents against bacteria recovered from various animal species. In addition, there are useful publications on quality control of culture media, rapid identification of common bacteria and yeasts, laboratory safety, parasitology, and new projects under way that focus on specimen transport, viral culture methods, and Mycoplasma susceptibility testing.
