Abstract

The effective management of intraoperative neurophysiologic monitoring requires that the entire operating room staff (surgeon, anesthesiologist, neurological monitoring team and nursing staff) work effectively towards the goal of better patient care by facilitating enhanced physiological management and surgical decision making. Preplanning of the strategy of monitoring and anesthesia management can be designed based on the neural structures at risk, needs of the surgical procedure and optimal electrophysiological vigilance. Close communication and coordination is essential during the procedure, especially when a change in responses prompts a search for cause and treatment of technical, surgical, anesthetic and physiological factors.
