Abstract
Frontline nurses need to understand how they impact national patient care quality measures and benchmarks. For perioperative nurses, the Surgical Care Improvement Project (SCIP) process measures in the Joint Commission's Core Measures Data Set dictate current evidence-based standards of care. This article (1) provides the rationale for using primers and dashboards as tools for disseminating and incorporating SCIP into frontline perioperative nursing practice, (2) introduces Knowles' and Vygotsky's learning theories to provide complementary perspectives on the nature of adult learning, and (3) outlines teaching strategies and exemplars that may be used to evaluate learner progress.
