Abstract

The association of endocrine disease and Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TTC) reviewed in the recent correspondence by De Giorgi et al [1] was a useful reminder that the spectrum of TTC continues to expand. No longer a rare condition seen mostly in Asian women subjected to severe stress, it is now recognized as a reasonably common (perhaps 2% of all acute coronary syndrome admissions) occurrence often associated with othermedical conditions, not only endocrine disorders but also infection, especially sepsis, as well. We report a recent well-documented case of TTC clearly related to a severe pneumonia with septic shock.
