Abstract
The classical cable equation and activating function has been used to represent the response of peripheral nerves to longitudinal electric field. But it can not predict the excitation of peripheral nerves to transverse field during magnetic stimulation. In this paper, a new model was advanced to represent the response of peripheral nerves to transverse field based on two-stage process. It showed that the excitation resulted from net inward current along radial direction. The excitation threshold values of the component of transverse field were obtained. The model was a supplement to the classical cable equation.
