Abstract
Dr. Delgado emphasized that a growing body of evidence suggests that antidepressants that inhibit the re-uptake of both 5-HT and NE have the best chance to reduce most symptoms of depression by targeting the multiple pathways that mediate them in the brain and spinal cord. These neurotransmitters appear to be involved both in the therapeutic effects of antidepressants on somatic and psychiatric symptoms of depression and as mechanisms that potentially impact neurodegeneration and neuroplasticity in the brain.
