Abstract
Our understanding of the molecular mechanisms responsible for osteoclast generation, differentiation, and bone resorption have improved dramatically in recent years. In part, this has been due to studies in osteopetrosis, the disease characterized by impairment of osteoclast action, and to improved techniques for isolation of osteoclasts and their precursors. This review will discuss some of these mechanisms.
