Surgical intervention is often indicated for rheumatoid arthritis involving the foot and ankle. A comprehensive understanding of the systemic manifestations of the disease is important for proper care and prevention of complications. Special considerations for perioperative management of these patients are presented for common foot and ankle procedures.
