Abstract

After hundreds of letters and cups of coffee, more than 10 000 e-mails, pdfs, and ftp downloads, hours of wheedLing and cajoLing, and hundreds more of writing, editing, and proofing, we are finally on hand for the birth of Pathobiology of Human Disease (PHD). This baby has been four long years in gestation (twice as long as elephants or black alpine salamanders); it was initially conceived by Mara Conner at Elsevier, and was brought to Life through the combined efforts of over 800 authors and editors. It has truly been a team effort that has united a world-class group of content experts with talented illustrators and a dedicated global crew of development and proofing editors.
