N2 - The legacy of Nina Starr Braunwald lives on in her innovations, clearing a path for women in cardiothoracic surgery, and in the lives of those she has trained or supported. As one of the early pioneers in cardiac surgery, she represents what is excellent in our profession. The Braunwald family has donated to The Thoracic Surgery Foundation in the form of Research Awards, and a survey was conducted to determine the career paths of recipients since the first award in 1993.
