Abstract

This presentation describes a current project which has the goal of examining and comparing the film compositions of the upflow anaerobic sludge blanket, anaerobic filter, and anaerobic fluidized bed reactors. The comparisons are made in terms of microbiological, physical, and chemical terms using three pilot scale reactors in operation at the University of Massachusetts Pilot Wastewater Plant. The morphology of the attached anaerobic biofilms is discussed.
