Abstract
Administration of the indoles 5 methoxytryptophol, 6 hydroxymelatonin, melatonin N acetylserotonin or 5 methoxyindole 3 acetic acid (six 100 μg injections given at intervals of 12 h) inhibited both the absolute and relative ovarian and uterine weights of immature female mice pre treated with HCG. Administration of 5 hydroxytryptophol or 5 methoxytryptamine at the same dosage inhibited ovarian but not uterine hypertrophy in mice pre treated with HCG.
