Abstract

This handbook is intended for medical students; residents in neurology and physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R); fellows in specialties that focus on conditions related to spasticity such as neurosurgery, orthopedics, and geriatrics; those in primary care who take care of patients with neurologic disabilities; allied health professionals, including physical, occupational, and speech therapists; and advanced practice providers, nurse practitioners, and rehabilitation nurses. This handbook is necessary for anyone first delving into the world of spasticity management, or as a reference for someone who already treats spasticity (or may have learners with them at the bedside), and for those in practice who strive to improve their spasticity management skills. We wish to thank our many contributing authors who have lent their precious time, amazing talent, and leading expertise to make this amazing handbook come to fruition. They are a star-studded cast, and we truly appreciate their efforts and input. We also want to thank Hannah Greco and all the editorial staff at Springer Publishing for their guidance throughout this process. We cannot forget to thank our spouses - Leonard Gutierrez (Monica) and Erin McGonigle (Nick) - as well as our children for always supporting our career and love of spasticity. Finally, we dedicate this book to the patients we are lucky to care for. Your resilience through adversity has inspired each page of this handbook. We hope you enjoy this book and remain motivated to improve the lives of persons with spasticity.
