Abstract

We have used multiple-cause mortality tables for England and Wales to examine the clinically suspected relationship of gallstone disease to diabetes. Several epidemiologic studies have found diabetics to have a high prevalence of cholelithiasis, while others have shown no increase. Our results do not suggest that diabetics are at increased risk of death from gallstone related diseases.
