Abstract
The authors describe the first case, to their knowledge, of filamentous Histoplasma capsulatum infection in a ventriculoatrial shunt. A review of the literature on the incidence, etiologies, and symptomatology of shunt-related infections is presented. The pathogenesis and treatment of the fungus-infected shunts are also discussed.
