Abstract
Epidermal changes in two cases of eruptive xanthoma were studied by electron microscopy. Alterations were limited mostly to the basal layer and showed a marked selectivity for melanocytes. Large lipid vacuoles accumulated in the cytoplasm of the involved cells. This finding probably reflects variations in the cytodifferentiation and function of the cells of the epidermis.
