Abstract

Advances in the understanding of the endocrine and hormonal mechanisms involved in normal and abnormal labor have led to clinical research into the roles of hormones and cytokines in preterm labor. This article reviews the current status of assays for estriol, activin, corticotropin-releasing hormone, interleukin-6, and relaxin as predictors of preterrn labor and delivery.
