Abstract
Post-weaning restriction of food intake decreased muscle mass and fiber diameter of 6-month-old male rats but had no effect on the mechanical properties, resting metabolism, ultra-structure and number of muscle fibers of a fast-twitch muscle preparation. The results imply that normal development of skeletal muscle function will not be arrested by the management of obesity using post-weaning restriction of food intake.
