Abstract

We have described a technique of diagnostic peritoneal lavage through a special catheter to aid in evaluating patients injured by severe blunt abdominal trauma. The indications for its application and the results thereof in 28 patients are presented. Employment of the technique for diagnostic help in patients with other intra-abdominal catastrophes has been discussed. No false positive or false negative results have been encountered.
