Colon cleansing for diagnostic and surgical procedures: Polyethylene glycol-electrolyte lavage solution

Abstract

The importance of adequate colon cleansing in preparation for diagnostic and surgical procedures cannot be overemphasized. Diagnostic accuracy and safety depend on good bowel preparation. Patient compliance is a major determinant of cleansing adequacy and, therefore, simplicity and ease of preparation are a concern. PEG-ELS is efficacious, safe, and well-tolerated, and can be recommended as a preparation method whenever colon cleansing is necessary. For colonoscopy and elective colon surgery, PEG-ELS has achieved widespread acceptance and use.
