Abstract
Two patients with intractable vomiting and abdominal distention, but evidencing no mechanical obstruction at laparotomy, demonstrated a visceral collagen disease at necropsy. There were no external manifestations present to suggest these diagnoses clinically. The difficulties in making an antemortem diagnosis of a collagen disease primarily involving the gastrointestinal tract are presented.
