N2 - 1. 1. Estradiol-17β and progesterone were found in the mandibular organ, green gland, hepatopancreas, ovary and serum of the American lobster by radioimmunoassay. 2. 2. The highest concentration of estradiol-17β of tissue was found in the mandibular organ. 3. 3. While high in animals with developing ovaries estradiol-17β was undetectable in all tissues and serum of animals possessing immature ovaries. 4. 4. Similarly, progesterone concentrations were low or undetectable in all tissues of animals with immature ovaries, except in the mandibular organ. 5. 5. Progesterone concentration was almost identical in all mandibular organs. Its concentration in animals with immature ovaries was essentially the same as that found in animals with developing ovaries.
