Cefadroxil in the treatment of wound infections following surgery: A comparison of two dosage regimens

Abstract

An open-label, randomized, multicenter study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy and safety of cefadroxil administered orally in dosage regimens of 1000 mg once daily and 500 mg administred twice daily in the treatment of patients with postoperative wound infections. Thirty-seven patients were evaluated, 16 on the 1000 mg q.d. dose regimen and 21 on the 500 mg b.i.d. regimen. The average duration of treatment was ten days. Sixty-five percent of the surgical procedures were abdominal, 19% involved the extremities, and procedure. Our observations of unchoached dental practitioners convince us that handwashing in dentistry is largely inadequate and that practical education is required to acomplish improvement.
