Abstract
Recent recognition that popliteal cysts can mimic thrombophlebitis elicited an important cause of calf pain. But other conditions are also culpable - cellulitis, rupture of the medial head of the gastrocnemius, and rupture of the plantaris tendon. The guidelines given here are helpful in pinpointing the cause and selecting appropriate treatment.
