These conditions are often benign and self-limiting, underscoring the importance of delineating them from traumatic conditions, neoplastic conditions, and other conditions of the SC joint. The course and characteristics will lead the physician to the appropriate diagnosis, and knowledge of these conditions can often spare the patient an unnecessary surgical procedure and improve chances for a good outcome. For these conditions, there is no proven treatment that has any advantage over the others, so a careful approach is recommended when dealing with these rare conditions.
