Abstract

A discrete painless breast lump is a common presentation in young or middle-aged women. This is often followed by triple assessment. Most of the benign discrete lumps usually represent a fibroadenoma and rarely a phyllodes tumour. Phyllodes tumour constitutes 0.3–1% all breast tumours. They are commonly seen to peak in incidence in women aged 45–49 years of age. The phyllodes tumours present with a range of pathologic spectrum from benign to malignant. The pre-operative diagnostic modalities present an obscure diagnosis of a ‘fibroepithelial lesion’, quite non-conclusive for a diagnosis. The management protocols have also been a debate among surgeons and no consensus have been reached so far. Through this ASOMA guide, we hope to provide a protocol for the accurate diagnosis and management of phyllodes tumours, based on recent evidence.
