Abstract
A simple test to confirm placement of a needle into the epidural space was tested in 25 patients. Changes in transmitted pressure in response to paravertebral compression when the needle was superficial to the epidural space were seen in all patients. No changes in pressure occurred with the needle in the epidural space. This test may increase the success rate of epidural analgesia.
